Across my artwork, I love exploring identity and feelings through experimentation with materials and visual approaches. I am drawn to bold color, strong contrast, and distortion, combining realism with abstraction to create pieces that feel both personal and surreal.
It's always a fun journey working on a new piece, especially working across multiple types of media, including painting, sculpture, and drawing, while working with unconventional and almost inconvenient materials such as cardboard, fabric, and wire. These materials allow the work to exist both physically and conceptually, emphasizing the process within the work, the transformation, and what they can be.
As a practicing artist, I am rooted in experimentation and growth rather than in a single medium. I allow each concept to determine its material, color, and form, embracing contrast and material variation as central elements of my work.
Biography
Evelyn South is a visual artist who explores contrast, form, and self-expression through bold compositions and unconventional materials. Her work often combines strong graphic elements with minimal forms, focusing on how shape, space, and texture can convey emotion without resorting to excessive detail. By experimenting with nontraditional materials and different media, she allows each piece to develop naturally through process and exploration.
Rather than aiming for perfection, South embraces experimentation as an essential part of her practice. Her portfolio reflects an intuitive approach to making, in which each artwork evolves through focus, dedication, and creative risk-taking. As a studio art student, she views art as both a personal language and a way to better understand identity and perception. Through ongoing experimentation, she continues to develop a body of work that is expressive, thoughtful, and visually engaging.
